Volta Catalunya: 13th for “orange squad” in TTT

CCC Sprandi Polkowice claimed 13th place in stage 2 of Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, team time trial. The “orange squad” was able to beat 6 UCI World Tour teams and was the best ProContiental group  of the day.

CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders knew the TTT course pretty well, since they did a recon during the recent training camp in Lloret de Mar. Thus, they were aware of the technical and hard opener.

This is where Łukasz Owsian, Mateusz Taciak went went flat out. Later they had to pay for it and got dropped from their teammates – Maciej Paterski, Jan Hirt, Felix Grosschartner, Piotr Brożyna, Patryk Stosz and Leszek Pluciński. Thanks to their sacrifice the team was able to record good time of 51:32 and take 13th place at the end of the day.

“Riders in orange” went 2:37 slower than the winning team, Movistar (48:57). The Spanish squad bested BMC Racing (by 2 seconds) and Team Sky (by 46 seconds). José Joaquín Rojas took over the GC lead.
