WSiO: Jeżowski loses against Schulze in Skarżysko.

The sprint cyclist from the PSK Whirlpool team, Andre Schulze scored his second victory in the Race of Solidarity and Olympics, winning the third stage with the finishing line in Skarżysko Kamienna. In a sprinters duel he defeated Krzysztof Jeżowski from CCC Polsat Polkowice and Daniel Schorn from the team of NetApp.

131 cyclists stood at the starting line of stage 3, to cover the 157 km long route from Piotrków Trybunalski to Skarżysko Kamienna. This last flat stage took place in beautiful sunny weather, at the temperature reaching 30 degrees Celsius. As in the previous two stages the teams having strong sprint cyclists strove hard to achieve the stage win.

When the peloton set off in Piotrków and the cyclists rode out of the city’s boundaries the first attacks and attempts at breakaways started. One of those who decided to attack on his own was the cyclist of the Belarus representation Jauhen Sobal, who was joined after some time by the cyclist of Telenet Fidea, Rob Peeters . The Belarus-Belgium duet working hard and harmoniously quickly gained an advantage over the peloton of over 6 minutes. In that time the peloton was riding quite calmly, and the slow-down was caused among others by a crash in the peloton with more than ten contestants involved. Fortunately, none of the cyclists was injured and they all continued racing. The two escaping cyclists gained points in harmony at intermediate sprints as far as the 90th kilometre, when the Belgian cyclist gave up the escape. Sobal decided to continue the break-away on his own. When the cyclists approached the rounds in Skarżysko, the team of the leader got down to serious work, eliminating very soon Sobal’s break-away. The one-but-last round in Skarżysko saw the peloton riding together and again sprint cyclists were getting ready for the final stretch. For the second time during this race a sprinters’ confrontation took place between Krzysztof Jeżowski (CCC Polsat Polkowice) and Andre Schulze (PSK Whirlpool). Unfortunately, that time again Krzysztof Jeżowski had to accept superiority of the German sprinter, who with his hand raised could enjoy his second victory during that race. Jeżowski had to settle for the second place, the third was Daniel Schorn from the team of NetApp.
