The riders of Polkowice-based team will take part in the upcoming three Croatian races Umag Trophy (4.03), Porec Trophy (7.03) and the stage race Istrian Spring Trophy (12-15.03). The 6-man squad will be based mostly on U23 riders.
Five riders from under 23 category will be reinforce by more experienced Bartłomiej Matysiak. He suffered an injury few weeks ago and he needs to get back into his racing rhythm. He will sub for Kamil Małecki, the youngest member of the team, who can’t compete at this stage of the season due to school responsibilities – Piotr Wadecki, sporting director said.
The riders will be racing in the north-west part of Croatia, by the Adriatic Sea, under the eye of Tomasz Brozyna, sporting director of U23 section of the team.
– We did a solid work during the off season and we should be ready for the opener. We held two training camps for our young riders, first in Poland where we worked on general fitness and the second in Calpe, Spain, where we concentrated only on cycling. Now we are in Croatia, where we arrived in on Sunday. For most of espoirs on our team it will be the first race of the year so it’s hard to predict what are they capable of. It will be a test, where do they stand comparing to other runners and the first step in really professional peloton. We expect a hard rivalry and strong competition at the start line – Brożyna said.
The presence of Bartlomiej Matysiak in the squad is very important for young riders. He will be the captain and his teammates can count on his experience and valuable advices during the race if I’m not around – he added.
Umag Trophy is 161km long and consists of seven 23-kilometer laps, with one hill on each. The peloton will tackle a similar, but shorter course 3 days later, at the Porec Trophy. Istrian Spring Trophy is a 4-day stage race, which include one very short prologue and three stages.
